Painting Sense into Statistics

I'm trying for something more relevant for this week's Illustration Friday topic "MULTIPLE."

Per the U.S. Census Bureau, Americans spent $3.3 billion $s in 2002 on Firearms & ammunition but only $6.5 million on Art goods. Per the World Health Organization and the Center for Disease Control, those most at risk of dying from guns are young men age 20-24. What young males that age did with those guns was kill each other (2,749 died from homicide, more blacks than whites) or themselves (2,251 died from suicide, more whites than blacks).

If more young men picked up a paint brush instead of a gun, the world would be a happier place.

Hey!

I CHOOSE to draw my mouth. While trying to draw a mouth shapped like a heart (in honor of Valentine's Day) I was forced to refer to the real thing in the mirror and what came out was a mouth that appeared to be saying "hey." This was done for fun on the Saatchi website http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/yourstudio/ but I thought it would also work for the weekly Illustration Friday topic "Choose" at http://illustrationfriday.com/

Blanket of Snow

Bald eagle is flying over a blanket of snow. Artwork done for Illustration Friday word "blanket." Digital painted background composited with scanned pen & ink & marker bald eagle illustration.

According to Dante, the tree of knowledge blooms with crimson-purple flowers and the eagle represents the Roman Empire. If it is true the USA is the new Roman Empire, there is much to be learned.

Brown Booby Philosophy

Fate loves to invent patterns and designs. Its difficulty lies in complexity. But life itself is difficult because of its simplicity.

Crow is Soaring Over the Red Poppies

Digital composite for Illustration Friday's weekly subject SOAR.

Poppies were an original pen & ink & marker illustration which was then scanned and printed at the Kala Art Institute in Berkeley on rice paper. Crow was added later.

Check out Kala's website for great classes at http://www.kala.org/mission.html

Father Affected By Time

As the end of another year approaches, it seems fitting to look back at how time affects the stages of man - in this case E.A. Autrey from 1947 to 2005
